About the 2005 Mountain Treasures Festival

 

The 2005 Mountain Treasures Festival that took place on July 2nd 2005 was coordinated and hosted by Dungannon Development Commission, Inc. The theme for the 2005 festival was deemed "A Salute to Scott County's Heros" to honor all that Scott County Emergency Services Personnel provides for the public. The parade was the first activity to kick off the day's festivities. Serving as grand marshals of the 2005 parade was top officials in each branch of Scott County's Emergency Services. After the parade the 3rd Annual Miss Forth of July Themewear Pageant was on the agenda. This activity took place at 1 p.m. at the Kiosk that is a adjacent to Dungannon Thrift Store. Participation in the pageant was successful. Girls from birth on up took part in the event. Contestants wore their choice of casual patriotic attire and was judged on beauty, as well as their overall appearance. A queen and 2 runners up was chosen in each category. The age divisions and winners were as follows:

Baby Miss Firecracker: Bristyn Holder, daughter of Chris and Tina Holder of Ft. Blackmore;1st Runner-up: Taylor Anderson, daughter of Kevin and Amy Anderson of Ft. Blackmore, and 2nd Runner-up: Amber Finch, daughter of Ernie and Katherine Finch of Dungannon

Wee Miss Patriotic: Elizabeth Wells, daughter of Mark Wells and Melissa Sweeney of Duffield; 1st Runner-up: Bailey Butler, daughter of Brandy Butler of Ft. Blackmore; and 2nd Runner-up: Devin Stewart, daughter of Steven Franklin and Julie Stewart of Dungannon.

Tiny Miss Independence: Jasmine Colemen, daughter of Don Gillenwater and Teresa Coleman of Nickelsville

Little Miss Red, White and Blue: Whitney Moore, daughter of David and Linda Moore of Kingsport; 1st Runner-up: Danielle Gachino, daughter of Bob and Kathy Gachino of Indiana.

Teen Miss American Pride: Tiana Dockery, daughter of Anthony and Angel Dockery of Gate City; 1st Runner-up: Brittany Gachino, daughter of Bob and Kathy Gachino of Indiana.

Back by popular demand was the "Southern Highway Band" which played for the 2005 Mountain Treasures Festival Street Dance. The dance took place at the Dungannon Depot. The band played from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Many thanks to the Scott County Lifesaving Crew for always booking the entertainment for street dance. During the Street Dance a Flat Foot Contest took place. The winner were as follows:

Youth: Mikey Finch Jr.

Adult Female: Peggy Lawson

Adult Male:Mikey Finch, Sr.

The Staff and Board of DDC wishes Southern Highway's own Danny "Guitar Floyd" Fields a speedy recovery following and apparent heart attack suffered after their performance at the festival.

The day's festivities was capped off with a Fireworks Display that took place from Dungannon Intermediate School softball field. The Dungannon Development Commission, Inc. lovingly dedicated the 2005 Fireworks Display to the memory of their friend and board member Edna Ann Lane
