About the July 4th 2003 Celebration

The 4th of July Celebration held in the town of Dungannon was a great success this year. It is believed that this is possibly the largest crowd to ever attend the festival. The Dungannon Development Commission, Inc. coordinated several event that were held throughout the day. The morning began with the parade which lasted nearly an hour. Spectators along the route voted for the best horse and floats that participated in the parade. Winners of the horse awards were 1st place-Sherry Hilton and 2nd place-Benny Babb. Winners of the float awards were: 1st place-The Osborne Family "In Memory of Rev. Osborne" and 2nd Place-Kinley Studios.

DDC also hosted a Miss 4th of July Theme Wear Pageant this year. Winner and runners up were as follows:
Baby Miss Firecracker-Abigail Fields, 1st runner up- Angel Grace Dockery, 2nd Runner up- Emily Williams
Wee Miss Patroiotic-Haley Brickery, 1st runner up-Abigail Mitchell and Kelsey Dockery, 2nd runner up Erical Lane
Tiny Miss Independence-Rakeila Street, 1st runner up-Samantha Jordan
Little Miss Red, White and Blue-Smantha Lewis
Teen Miss American Pride-Breana Dockery, 1st runner up-Samantha Baker, 2nd runner up Jesska Christiansen-McConnell
Miss Lady Liberty-M'Kenzie Christiansen-McConnell, 1st runner up-Amber Noel and 2nd runner up Andrea Mitchell

The First Baptist Church of Dungannon held a Gospel Singing where several groups and individuals preformed. This event allowed for a mid-day cool-down time for many of the festival goers. "True Country" took the stage for the street dance. A flat foot contest was held during the live entertainment. Winning the children's category was Katie Sluss, JoAnn Grizzle was the best lady dancer and Edward Gibson took home the men's award. The Penny Princess was announced during the street dance. The winner was Emily Williams, 1st runner up was Elizabeth Hensley and 2nd runner up Kennedy Hahn. A beautiful 30+ minute fireworks display capped off the night.
