The DDC has created a food bank program to allow low-income people in Scott County to better feed themselves and their families. Food will be available once a month to participants of the program.

Applications for the program is accepted during the first and last weeks of each month and only participants that have previously applied will be served during that month. Applications will not be accepted on food distribution day.To apply for the program, contact the DDC office for an appointment to file an application. When applying, proof of income and proof of residence, including address, is required.

Who is eligible to receive benefits of the Food Bank?

  • Any one single house hold that meets the restricted qualifications that is as follows:
  • Any household that has had an emergency loss due to a House Fire or Flooding.
  • Any household that contains a member that receives Food Stamp benefits.
  • Any household that meets the required poverty income level.

Who is not eligible to receive benefits?

  • Any household that contains a member that has committed Welfare Fraud.
  • Any household containing a member that has tried to receive more than one package from the project during one distribution day.
  • Any household that is not located in Scott County!
  • Any household that does not have a valid Food Bank Card.

When is Food Distribution:
Each month on the second Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon

Prior to Distribution:
Food will be contributed and stored safely until Distribution Day.
Food will be sorted and packaged into one package/box for recipients on Distribution Day.
Recipients will never be allowed in the food storage room due to sanitary reasons.

Recipients must complete an application process and provide:
Proof of Income
Proof of Residence/Address
Application will list number of individuals in household
Each recipient will have to renew the application process for certification annually.

Once the application process is completed and approved the applicant will be issued a Food Bank Card that must be presented each month on Distribution Day before food will be allowed to be picked up.

Staff will log each cards use to record the number of applicants served and number of times served.

Each applicant will be asked to come for distribution at an arranged time during the distribution hours. These hours will be stated on the food card.

Can I make a Donation to the DDC's Food Bank?

We are not allowed to ask FOOD BANK CARD HOLDERS for a donation, however if they make a donation it will be gladly accepted and will go toward the expenses for the Food Bank Project.

Who can Pick up Package/Boxes on Distribution Day?

Any household member*that contains a valid Food Bank Bank Card
(*Household member is defined as anyone living in the household that is listed on the original application. If a new member has been added to household a new application must be filed prior to Distribution Day.)

Can other people pick up my package if I am not able to come to the center on Distribution Day? YES-BUT ONLY IF THEY HAVE YOUR FOOD BANK CARD AND YOU CALL AHEAD OF TIME STATING THAT THEY HAVE YOUR PERMISSION TO PICK UP YOUR PACKAGE. This will only be allowed one time. What if I am disabled and cannot get out? In this event, there is a special form that must be filed. The form will state who is to pick up food for you. The person picking food up for you will be required to have your FOOD BANK CARD and Sign a form stating they will be distributing the food package to you.

What is the FOOD BANK CARD?
The FOOD BANK CARD is used to show that you are a valid applicant to receive benefits of the project. The FOOD BANK CARD will contain and ID Number and Household Name.

Is the FOOD BANK CARD all I will have to have to get a package on Distribution Day? YES-But you will have to sign a pick up form each time you use the card. This method allows for documentation of food pick up.

Is Food ever sold or bartered?
NO-FOOD will never be sold or bartered.

Can I Sale the food once I pick it up?
NO-If you ever sell food that was received through the Food Bank, you will no longer be eligible for the benefits of the project.

What should I do with food Items that was in my package that my family nor myself will eat? Let the project coordinators know prior to leaving the center so others may benefit from the food. We can not accept food items once they leave the center due to safety reasons.

When can I file an application?

APPLICATIONS ARE ACCEPTED THE LAST WEEK OF EVERY MONTH! APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED ON DISTRIBUTION DAY.

No. We don't mail the application. You may download the application form from from our web site by clicking here.
